JEAN TELFORD NIX
Jean Telford Nix passed away on December 23, 2024, after suddenly suffering a severe case of pancreatitis.
It was at Roosevelt Junior High where Jean met Bill Nix, the love of her life. They went on their first date at age 13 and went on to enjoy a 66-year marriage. Jean received her BA and MA in psychology from San Jose State and began her teaching career at SJ City College. After having her children, she continued at DeAnza College as an instructor in psychology and part-time counselor. She then worked as a technical writer for computer companies for 20 years.
Throughout her life, Jean made many friends and had many interests – book clubs, bridge, stitchery, quilting, knitting and the culinary arts – while raising her three children and caring for her mother. She also served as a gracious hostess for the many reunions of the academic family Bill developed at Stanford. There were many trips across the US and also 80 countries visited over the years, the last a trip to the Amazon River in 2024.
Jean is survived by her husband Bill, her children Cynthia, Jeffrey, and Rebecca, her sister Janet and her seven grandchildren. The family is planning a celebration of her life in the spring.
She and Bill were married in 1958, after an on and off courtship that began, according to Bill, when he was only 12 years old. He had excellent judgement, even at that age.
