56th Reunion Program

And a good time was had by all.......... On Saturday, September 25, 2010 the San Jose High Class of 1954 had its 56th-year reunion. Here are random shots of the festivities.

In charge of decorations was Jan Valenti, taking a break with her husband Gene Gimelli before the guests arrive. In the background, Joyce (Glenn Pearce's wife) is busy readying the drinks and appetizer table.

Bill Nix, our Master of Ceremonies, and Lorraine Barbaria Azevedo, with Art Pasquinelli behind them and further back, Glenn Pearce talking to Carolyn Chaney Pickering.

Art conversing with Ron Portal and John Andreoli, with Frank Tavolacci in the background talking to a blue shirt (Marvin Horton).

Here's Lorraine 'pinning' Art with his photo ID button. John doesn't look too happy; guess he hasn't gotten his button yet.

One happy group of pals - Doreen Medeiros Aimonetti, Rosalie Maltese Alessi, Lorraine and Marlene Rhoads with Elvis looking on.

Joyce Hardenbrook going through the buffet line with Adrienne Etheridge and her husband Don just behind her.

Here's Glenn talking to Norma Achelpohl Morrell and Carolyn Chaney. Joyce is approaching and we see the backs of Adreen Petroni and her husband Tom D'Amico speaking with Lois Johnston Wise and Marilyn Lambdin and her husband Ron Rios with Jan Valenti.

Ann Kuzinich Scolari stopped by to greet Tessie Jackson Henry and her granddaughter Natisha Holloway.

Here's another shot of Tessie with her lifelong friend Charlene Alexander, who came all the way from Seattle, WA.

Leo Mauro speaking with Beverly Mecklenberg and Lloyd Webb, with Gwen James Ardizzon and her son Tim crossing behind.

Chatting away with Doreen Medeiros Aimonetti are Marlene Gori Rhoads (with her daughter) and Rosalie Maltese Alessi, with Ann Kuzinich adding her 2 cents.

Doug Scolari with Carolyn Chaney behind him opposite Jan and Gene Gimelli and Colleen Keys Spediacci and Jim Broz.

On the right is Glenn Bennett, Bev Traber's husband, and behind him Lois Johnston and Roy and Thelma Frontani. On the left is Bev Traber, Dan Wise, and Leo and Carolyn Mauro.

Having a serious discussion are Jean Telford Nix and Ray Townsend. Behind them are Joyce and Glenn Pearce and Mr. Mark Briggs.

This happy group is Joyce Hardenbrook and her husband Marvin Rickard with Adrienne Etheridge Durfee and Don. On the right is Tessie with Charlene Alexander.

Opposite Marvin Horton on the left is Carlos Arevalo and his wife Jane, and behind them Frank Tavolacci and his wife Mary.

Here's Ron Portal with wife Carol and John Andreoli with Flo, sitting opposite Andris Ramans and Winston Adcock and wife Barbara.

Bill DiCristina sharing a laugh with Andris Ramans and Ron Portal.

This happy couple is Roy Frontani and his wife Thelma, sitting next to Dan Wise, Lois Johnston's husband. Roy traveled from Salinas and Dan and Lois came from Arkansas.

Sitting behind his son Adrian is Vic Rapazzini, both behind Vic's wife Cynthia. On the right are Gwen James Ardizzon and her son Tim, in front of Marilyn Lambdin and her husband Ron Rios.

First in line at the buffet was Norma Achelpohl with Beverly Mecklenberg right behind.

Next came Art Pasquinelli and Rosemary Salcedo Mason.

Our Guest of Honor Mr. Mark Briggs with his presentation.

The lighting was dimmed but the interest was bright as our MC Bill Nix began his PowerPoint presentation.

From South Lake Tahoe came Norm Mowat and his wife Lora, sitting behind Jim Broz, Colleen Keys and Jan Valenti. On the right is Marvin Horton, accompanied by his daughter (his wife Inge had foot surgery recently).

Lois Johnston has just received her bottle of Rapazzini Winery champagne from Bill Nix, which was her prize for traveling the furthest to the reunion (from Arkansas). Behind Bill is Bill DiCristina, our senior class president, who gave a welcoming speech. Dotsy got lost in the crowd.

The next morning there was a breakfast mini-reuinion at the hotel where most of the out-of-towners stayed. There were 19 in all, though some avoided the cameras.

Angie Brutto Geissman and Jean Nix manned the welcoming table at the reunion. Many thanks to both of them.

****************************************************************
The highlight of the evening was the program assembled by Jean (Telford) and Bill Nix, presented on the big screen with commentary by Bill, the Master of Ceremonies. For those lucky enough to have seen it in person, here's a chance to relive the moment. For those unlucky ones who didn't see it full size, here's a chance to see what you missed.

Each picture had no caption originally, and everyone was left to guess who they were seeing. Then the captions came on, sometimes to groans and laughter. Here there are no captions; you're on your own, although I've added a few comments when I couldn't help it (the devil made me do it).

If anyone would like the complete PowerPoint presentation (10 MB), Bill Nix will be happy to email it to you. You may contact him at nix@stanford.edu.

She came all the way from Arkansas, and all she got was a bottle of champagne.

She was our head yell leader, but we all knew that. So who were the other 2 on her team?

Mr. Mark Briggs was our Guest of Honor.

She came from the old country and was told bandanas were fashionable here.

Doesn't he look like he knows something you don't? Infuriating!

The first word that comes to mind is 'perky'. Don't know why.....

No, we didn't make a mistake and put up the same picture twice.

Hey, is it my imagination, or are those cars identical?

OK, this is a tough one so you get a clue: he's not this cute anymore.

I actually paid money to ride on that thing. Now you couldn't pay ME!

She gives up. She was always 'Rudy's sister', and she STILL is!

Be sure to click on this photo to see how many classmates you recognize.

Remember, he came from Latvia. The first picture is before he discovered ice cream. But he kept the same hairdresser.

They thought it was a funeral. Nobody told them it was a birthday party!

She kept telling him she preferred older men, but he wouldn't listen.

Before and after. Before what and after what, I don't know.

Here's the answer to the earlier trivia question, the second yell leader. Now who was the third?

She came from Seattle, which won her a bottle of bubbly too.

They told her she was too 'cutesy', so she tried 'butch'.

From the winery to the ministry. That's what I call a 'slight career change'.

Where did they find that crown? And why did she let them put it on her head?

They thought farmers' wives dressed like this?
